For those divers with an Advanced Scuba Certification
Starting the boat ride with briefings from your guides regarding the boat and dive safety and procedures, keep your eyes open for signs of dolphin, whales (In Season), mating turtles (in season) and the amazing jumping rays.
We choose 2 dive sites, weather & daily conditions depending, to perform 60ft max dives (40ft if certification is restricted).
With the possibility of seeing White tip reef sharks, Spotted eagle rays, Giant Manta Rays, Nudibranchs, Octopus, big schools of fish, eels and even maybe a seahorse, the variety of life in this ocean is astounding and never boring as it changes so much during the year.
The key is to be properly geared up and always keep your eyes open as you never know what might swim your way!
There is a vast difference between diving at night and a day dive! The reef actually transforms into a different world once the sun sets down. The Costa Rica reef system is nocturnal within itself and your favorite coral will look totally different at night when the coral polyps extend their tentacles to feed. Some species of fish are more active during night compared during the day, like the smaller types of sharks for example.
Although many shipwrecks sink too deeply to be easily visited by recreation scuba divers, a few land intact in water that’s shallow enough to dive to without special precautions and equipment (120 feet or less) yet not so shallow that big storm waves smash them into pieces. Theses wrecks become artificial coral reefs, and the big hollow spaces are favorite lurking spots of groupers, sharks, and eels and more!
