Palo Verde Wetlands Safari by Boat
Palo Verde’s wetlands reserve is Central America’s most important nesting site for aquatic birds. Especially in the months from November to May you will be able to spot countless birds along the rivers which we will navigate by boat to explore this exceptional place.
You can expect to see different types of herons, egrets, kingfishers, flycatcher, raptors, storks and maybe roseate spoonbills, orioles, scarlet macaws and owls.
So far for the bird lovers, but here is also one of the world’s highest concentrations of crocodiles (hatching is around May-June) and we will usually see monkeys at close distance. Both howler monkeys and whitefaced capuchins are common and spider monkeys show up occasionally during rainy season (May-Nov).
We will also see lots of iguanas, bats, jesus christ lizards and occasionally anteaters and white-nosed coatis which all live inside the reserve in healthy populations. This is a great tour and especially perfect for wildlife photography!
After the boat tour we will sit down and have a real costarican lunch with all its culinary delights. The meals are prepared on a fireplace and comprise salad, rice, beans, plantains, cheese, chicken, beef, vegetable stew and more… optionally vegetarian or any other preference. Lots of animals at close distance…great for kids and also a nice cultural experience!
