Let me begin by saying that we recently had a wonderful two week stay in Villa Malibu - Luna Suite.
The suite was exactly as the photos depict and the accommodations were very nice, we enjoyed relaxing at the pool daily.  The bay was great for walks (no rocks), watching the birds and local fishermen.  The water here is calm but snorkeling is better at the beaches named later.  Many happy memories of the restful two weeks, and we truly hated to leave.

We were definitely glad we had a vehicle as we were able to explore the many beaches and restaurants nearby.  We used GoogleEarth to find the beaches as there are no road signs.  Our favorites were Conchal with the white shell sand and clear water, Penca and Prieta were smaller with few to no tourists and Las Catalinas because it had the blackest, finest sand I have ever seen.  Pay attention to the undertows at these beaches if you have children.

We met several ex-pats and locals; they were especially helpful and friendly.  The housekeeper was wonderful (towel swans on the bed was a nice touch).   Had a little challenge with language but that is because we don’t speak Spanish, but all worked out well,

If you like to eat out try:
Soda Marcell – Potrero   -   (Arroz con pollo/camerones), no English but really helpful
Las Brisas – Potrero -  (Huge shrimp in garlic butter - not on the menu, so you have to ask, a little pricy but well worth it)
Sugar Beach Hotel - on the way to Las Catalinas  - (Chicken nachos)
Green House - Las Catalinas  -  (Try the local dish:  Chifrijo)  Stop by the Pura Vida for a chat.

Aylen at Special Places did a great job answering questions and recommending excursions.  There is  a local guide book in the condo for other suggestions.

Thanks to Ivan at for a wonderful horseback excursion in Brasilito.  Be sure to ask him for options as he will create an adventure for you based on whatever you want to see and do.

The massages at Zen Spa at Flamingo Beach resort were OUTSTANDING.  Delia is a master at finding the problem areas and working them out.  She was so good, we went back to her the next week.

It was really fun to be there for the first rain and the “great crab migration”, and can’t say enough about beach right outside the back gate and the AMAZING SUNSETS!   WOW!!!

From the first time I made the inquiry to Special Places of Guanacaste, to the time we checked out all was first class. This was our first time to Costa Rica and it did not disappoint. It is amazing how friendly this community truly is. Upon our arrival into Playa Flamingo (a rental car is definitely necessary in this area), we were greeted by Kevin at the Special Places office. We followed him to the house so he could give us a tour on the in's and out's of the house. Once he left we settled in by the pool, drinks in hand.

The view is stunning from the back of the house of Flamingo Beach and the sound of the waves crashing makes it very relaxing. The bedrooms are designed for privacy. The two main bedrooms are across the house from eachother, while the 3rd is actually outside of the main house like a connected caretakers unit. All three bedrooms are spacious and the beds are extremely comfortable. The whole back of the house opens up with folding doors to allow the fresh air to flow through the house. You can turn on the waterfall in the front courtyard, open the front and back doors and sit by the pool and just listen. Amazing! A couple of tips: During the dry season (which is when most of us have our spring breaks) the coastal foilage is dormant, like when our winter in the States comes. So, all of the trees look like their dead. If you plan on doing a jungle tour or zip lining and have the expectancy of sailing high above the canapy or seeing any colorful birds and green you will need to drive inland to get it. Don't try to do this in one day, make a hotel reservation near the place your touring. You'll thank me later.

The beach is within walking distance, but it's not as easy as other reviews have made it sound. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to walk it. You go through a parking lot of a hotel and down a VERY steep incline hill, down a short road to the beach. It is much easier to just drive. Bring slippers or something to put on your feet as all the floors are either tile or stone, can get a little rough on the feet. Eating out is VERY expensive, there is a grocery store just down the road or you can have Special Places do the shopping for you for a 20% charge. We had them shop for the basics to get us by the first night and morning. If you do eat out, try Tubla Pizza. Cooked in a outdoor pizza oven, some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend the house and Special Places. First Class all the way!

This was our first trip to Costa Rica – and definitely won’t be our last! We stayed one week at the townhouse with some friends and it was awesome! The photos of the townhouse listed do not do it justice; it is much more impressive in person. The location is fantastic and the view of the ocean from the infinity pool is breathtaking. Two beaches, Playa Penca and Playa Prieta, are a short walk from the townhouse; both are secluded and were not crowded at all during our stay. We also worked with Special Places to book a sailing tour, zip lining, and surf lessons at Playa Grande, a nearby beach. The folks at Special Places were extremely helpful, made recommendations on what we should do and on what days and set everything up for us. When we arrived they took us to the house, showed us around, and made sure we were comfortable. Over the week we ate at several local restaurants including Sol y Mar, Maxwell’s Café, Las Brisas, Happy Snapper, and The Castle. All had great food! Susan was very helpful throughout the trip planning process. She made recommendations on things to do and provided us with driving directions, maps to the restaurants/bars and grocery stores.

We can’t wait to go back!

Hi Becky !! I just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know that our stay with Casa Fiesta was Fantastic !!! We all loved the house so much and Diego and his wife were most helpful! They really went out of their way for us. I would also like to thank you for making all the arrangements you did, everything went off without a hitch and we couldnt be more greatful for that. It really made it a great vacation!

Thanks again!!!

"My family enjoyed a wonderful week at Villa Catalina in November 2010. Villa Catalina is beautifully maintained, inside and out. Each of the 4 spacious bedrooms had its own full bathroom and balcony/outdoor sitting area. The kitchen was gorgeous and fully stocked - granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, large island with additional seating and fully stocked w/ tools. The dining/kitchen area is very open and conducive to a festive atmosphere while cooking and eating. All of the little touches, like providing bath/pool towels, pool "toys," dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. made everything so convenient, too. It was such a relief to not have to pack or buy that stuff when we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed amenities like the private pool, access to the golf course, daily maid/landscaping service, free shuttle rides from the villa to the Beach Club, gated security, in-house laundry room, etc.

We also took advantage of the Reserva's chef service and had two of their chefs prepare a delicious seafood feast in the villa for us one night - and they cleaned up, too! The owners and property managers also went out of their way to make our stay extra comfortable and special. I had my 14-month-old daughter w/ us, so we had a few special things we needed just for her - highchair, crib and milk. The owners made sure that the crib and highchair were set up at the villa when we arrived - they even had baby sheets that fit perfectly so we didn't have to bring them, and the maid even made up her little crib with new sheets each day! Milk was my big concern, and the property manager took the time to make a personal trip to a nearby market to stock the fridge w/ a week's worth of organic soy milk for us before we arrived.

Reserva Conchal is a very short distance to Brasilito - quick cab ride, or about a mile (adventurous) walk. We enjoyed some beach time and several lunches/dinners there. It is about a 15-20 minute cab ride to Tamarindo, where you'll find more shops and restaurants. Tamarindo is also great for those interested in surfing/paddle-boarding - you can rent there. The Reserva was also very willing to arrange excursions - we did a canopy tour and horseback riding. The nice thing about Villa Catalina is that you can really make your vacation as laid back or as adventurous as you want. It was a truly beautiful home in a majestic setting. I hope to have the opportunity to visit again someday!"

Thank you Sharon for helping us with our all needs during our stay last week and the week prior in Costa Rica.

Please also pass along my thanks to Rebecca who I dealt with when I initially booked the condo.

Costa Rica was such a beautiful place to visit and tour – and the people so friendly. The memories will last forever for our family.

The endless beach condos were exactly what I expected and the other renters/owners were nice to talk to occasionally.

I especially enjoyed the maintenance fellow at the condo. Although we couldn’t communicate with him because of the language difference, you could tell he loved his job and is deeply committed to what he does. He is a wonderful asset to the place, always had a smile on his face and said hello.

Thank you again and take care.

Hi Sharon ,  wanted to let you know how much my family and I enjoyed our vacation at Casa CopaCabana.    It was a amazing house and loved the outside living area  and beach.    Mercedes and David were fantastic to have around and felt like part of the family.    I also want to thank you again for all your help, I love your Costa Rica and will be back again.

Well we are back from paradise and into the cool snowy climate now.  Reality!

Thank you so very much once again for your warmth and generosity ... thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your condo.  It is lovely, the setting is beautiful and we found the location to be very very nice.  Flamingo is very nice and it was easy to go over to Tamarindo Bay as well.

Your suggestions were helpful as well as those of Special Places.  Although Angelinas and Mar y Sol were closed, we had no problem finding some new haunts.

We highly recommend Carlos n Carlos just down the road on the way to Brazilito.  It is a new  Italian fine dining, they have a restaurant in Chicago also and it was very very good and very nice people.

The other one is Lola's on Avelennas Beach just on the other side of the Marriott at Hacienda Pinellas.  Lolas, if you have not been there is a wonderful outdoor beach restaurant, fabulous food and wonderful atmosphere.  We spent an entire afternoon there.

Another must is to have Miguel, the chef, come and make dinner for you at your condo.  He was recommended by Sharon at Special Places and he and his son did a fabulous job---
a wonderful seafood dinner, lovely salad and bananas flambe.

We golfed one of the days at Hacienda Pinellas (Marriott) and that was beautiful.

Jimmy at Special Places is a peach - he is a great maintenance person - and very accomodating.  Sharon is a fabulous activities/entertainment person.  She gave great ideas to us, made some great accomodations and was just a delight.

Thank you  - it was very fun and your condo is very warm and beautiful.   We would recommend it anytime.   Take care and enjoy your time there.

I feel a little silly writing this after SO much time has passed but I do want you to know how much my friends and I appreciated all of the help you provided to us when we stayed at Casa Thu in February. We had such a wonderful week and the Casa was perfect for our needs! When we had some last minute changes on the last day when our friends missed their flight, you guys went above and beyond in a highly stressful time and I know the entire house appreciated all of your efforts.
I have highly recommended your company to friends travelling to Costa Rica and would go back and stay again in a heart beat if given the chance!

Thanks again and I hope you have a great summer,

Wow you guys...this was the best trip many of us have been on.  We have ridiculous amounts of pictures should you want to see them or use them for your usage...I  will not send unless of interest...  But promise me, should I want to come back, I get first dibs.  I already discussed with my parents and they are interested in potentially renting in the future....but our group of 7 really loved this... here are the highlights..(in no particular order..)
Jennifer and Sharon..amazing.  You guys always had your eye on us and it gave us a level of comfort we didn't even know we needed certainly directed us the right was in choosing this house!
Michael....we envy you...but wonder why you ever leave (though we did appreciate that you did this time)!!!
The house was to die for...mornings at the pool..afternoons out exploring..sunsets on the roof...(I write this as I sit in 20 degree weather)
Mar Y Sol was great for new years...we also cocktailed there one night and met waiter Juan who was great.
Angelina's...and Yellowfin..the boys of our house checked out Yellowfin the first afternoon and feel in love with it and Julia Stiles...thankfully she was taken or I may have lost my boyfriend to her..we went back to Angelinas one other night and Joe (Cookie!) was great to us and led us right with some margaritas and tuna sliders...
Chefs James and good...they were perfect...
Jennifer and Sharon.thanks for hooking us up with the local fiesta....sorry we missed you there but we loved it..
The ATV and Zip line tour was great.nice to be with just our group and the ATVs (for most of us) were a blast..
Car was a good move..we used a bunch.went to Tamarindo, Brasalito, Playa Grande, Potrero, Azucar
Ate at Bula Bula ..that is a find...
Our ride home was eventful with a Joan Rivers sighting at the airport in Liberia (see today for news on that) and a security breach in Newark that closed the airport for hours..most of us (except for Phili Paul) landed at 2am in Newark.and got our bags around 3am.. (oh yes, and a woman who lit up a cigarette on the plan..who does that!)
So many more highlights but I wanted to make sure you guys know that we appreciate all we did..I'm sure we forgot some stuff (camera charger for one)...can we pick it up in a few months!!!!

Hi Becky, Just a quick note to say thank you for all of your help and wonderful suggestions for our trip to Costa Rica. We had an amazing time at Casa Thu and the trip was truly perfect. We really appreciate all of your help. Jenny and Kevin were so helpful throughout our entire stay with restaurant suggestions and extending our reservation time and time again.

We hope to be back soon and will definitely recommend your services to our friends. All the best,

"Finally starting to get back into normal routine. Wanted to thank you again for the accommodations and hospitality. We loved the house and... enjoyed every minute of our vacation. If you ever have any clients that would like to hear from previous renters, please feel free to use me as a reference. We will highly recommend the Casa Las Brisas house to any of our friends". Best regards.
Kim, Dennis, Jo, Chuck, Nyleene and Doug

Hi Becky, ... We are glad to be home, although it is FREEZING here! We are missing the beach, our beautiful view, and the peacefulness of Costa Rica. What a beautiful country! I can easily understand why you have relocated there. Our trip was wonderful for many reasons.

Thank you so much for placing us at Casa Margarita - a gem of a house! It met our every need. The drive up, is quite a challenge, but once at the top, there is nothing quite like it! Please let Kevin know that we really enjoyed our ATV/Zipline adventure.

What a way to spend my birthday!! All in all it was a great vacation!!
Should we return to Costa Rica, we will be sure to rent from you again! Thanks again for your wonderful service. Best regards,

"I just wanted to touch base and thank you and Kevin for a great month! The house was wonderful and you were wonderful as well. We will recommend you to anyone we know that might want to visit Costa Rica."

"The property and surrounding area was wonderful and we felt very much at home.  It was beautiful, safe, and super comfortable.  The owners live nearby and were great at anything we requested.  They were able to arrange tours, transportation, and just about any service you could require.  Very friendly!!!  The home was immaculate and included full maid service midweek.  The housekeepers even did my personal laundry that I had left in the laundry room.  Each employee was beyond friendly and helpful!!!  I would recommend this property to family and friends.

The area is great and convenient to several beaches and restaurants.  We enjoyed nearby spa services, a visit to the volcano Rincon de la Vieja and Tizrate Wellness Gardens for horseback riding, ziplining, and hot springs.  So beautiful!!!  We found the Tizrate tour through Anywhere Costa Rica tours and could not have been more pleased with the all-inclusive package for the day.  The food was fresh, plentiful, and wonderful and the bar service was included and the staff made our family anything we could dream up.

There is also a full service spa but you have to request the services at the time of booking so they have the staff on duty the day of your tour.  Imaginge a couples massage in an open cabina with candles and flowers overlooking the hot springs as you listen to the birds chirp and look out over the beautiful, lush green hillsides.  This is the atmosphere at Tizrate, a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation!!!  We could not have been more pleased with the house, the staff, the tours, nothing!!  It is truly a magical place!"
