Tour Description

The Corcovado Wildlife Tour takes place in the Corcovado National Park, perhaps Costa Rica’s greatest natural treasure. However, it is now costing tourists more treasure than ever to visit.

Recently known as a place where you had to bring your own food, this remote park now prohibits overnight visitors from doing so, requiring them to buy meals from a new provider — $20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch and $25 for dinner. And where tourists once camped out for $4, that is now forbidden too, replaced by the option of a bunk bed at Sirena Ranger Station that costs $30.

These new rules are controversial in some circles, but tour guide MaiKol Salas Sanchez said they have been a change for the better. “Before there was a lot of disorder, everyone had to prepare their own [food], everything was disordered and dirty,” he said. “It’s a little more expensive now, but it’s worth the money.”

The Corcovado National Park is said to contain 2.5 percent of the world’s biodiversity, meaning that of every 40 animal species in the world, one of them can be found here. It’s teeming with monkeys, anteaters, peccaries, tapirs, agoutis, coatis, bats, felines and all kinds of birds, lizards and amphibians.

During the hike on the Corcovado Wildlife Tour, we will cross a series of incredible hanging bridges that will take us up (130ft!) into the treetops where most of the incredible diversity of life in the rainforest can be seen.

The Corcovado Wildlife Tour is one of our favorites and is a great introduction to the world’s richest ecosystem!  This is a full day trip suitable for all ages.
