Cartagena 12A in Las Catalinas is a rare find that sleeps up to six in a 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath villa on an exquisite beach in Costa Rica.
With arched windows and an upstairs-downstairs, this hillside unit is located in the Cartagena Flats building within view of the Pacific Ocean in one of Costa Rica’s most visionary developments.
The two bedrooms downstairs have king and queen beds, both with en-suite bathrooms, A/C and ceiling fans. Each bedroom has an outdoor terrace with seating and a large closet with built-in drawers, cubbies, shoe racks and an area to hang clothes. The master bedroom has a laptop-sized safe in the closet. The living room has a queen-size sofa bed with a half-bath of its own.
The large master bathroom has double sinks and a separate toilet. Natural light enters through an oval frosted window in the large walk-in shower, which also has a corner bench and shampoo/conditioner insert. There’s a full bathroom in the guest bedroom, also with a shampoo/conditioner insert. There is a half bathroom (toilet/sink) on the street level in the main living area.
The clean, pristine kitchen is equipped with all that heart could wish, including stainless-steel GE appliances (fridge, electric stove, microwave and dishwasher), granite counters and center island with three stools. There are lots of storage cabinets with upper glass-fronted, lighted display cabinets. There are some wooden floating shelves and two blue glass buoy pendant lights over the island.
The rectangular guanacaste wooden slab dining table has a black iron base. A matching wood/iron bench along the wall and four comfortable chairs provide seating for seven to eight.
The living room is elegantly furnished and has a TV almost as big as the couch. There are a total of three smart TVs in the living room and bedrooms.
The main living area has two large, arched windows, one looking out to the plunge pool terrace and the other above the kitchen sink overlooking a garden and Calle Cartagena. A set of patio doors leads to an outdoor terrace, and a sliding wood door is located at the top of the stairs. Unique artwork includes an original wall sculpture by Costa Rican artist Tony Jimenez. Artwork and decor throughout has beach and natural themes.
There’s a deep corner plunge pool on the main-level terrace with partial ocean views facing west obscured only by the trees along the beach. An adjacent covered area with a round dining table and four chairs cooled by ocean breezes or a ceiling fan is perfect for dining al fresco.
The master bedroom has a covered terrace with a ceiling fan and lots of privacy. The views from the two wicker/padded chairs and side table include almond trees and large floral plantings. The guest bedroom has a large outdoor patio with two wicker/padded chairs and a side table perfect for reading and relaxing. A wooden set of bodega doors (with iron elements like a medieval castle entrance) runs along one of the patio walls.
There is a full-size washer and dryer under the stairs on the lower level. Maid service is available by request at renter’s expense.
The home is fully air-conditioned and has high-speed Wi-Fi. Las Catalinas has extensive security and cameras.
Access to the Beach Club is available for $15 per person per day, paid directly to Las Catalinas at reception. No pets are allowed. Las Catalinas is still a developing town, so construction noise is possible, but this condo is located in Beach Town North, which is almost completely built up.
This villa looks out through arched windows on Calle Cartagena, a charming streetscape in the Old World style of Las Catalinas. This is a car-free, fully walkable development with old-fashioned fountains and streets made of paving stones, whose architecture was inspired by colonial towns in Latin America as well as Mediterranean coastal towns.
Las Catalinas is located on Playa Danta, a beautiful, shady beach, and is renowned for its hotels, restaurants and upscale shops. Cartagena 12A is a few minutes’ walk from the beach and seconds from the Beach Club, close to the supermarket and reception. The Mercado area with its hotel, restaurants, shops and health facilities is less than a 5-minute walk away.
