Costa Rica is currently home to SIX active volcanoes, over 800 miles of stunning shorelines, and a whopping 50% of the country is made up of rainforests!

You could take a hike up the Arenal Volcano or enjoy the geothermal hot springs. Turtle spotting and surfing are among the favorite things to do if you’re a beach lover. You could also go exploring the many different rain forests that are home to an uncountable amount of different species: mammals, reptiles, amphibians, flowers, trees, insects, birds, and butterflies.

The Arenal Volcano is surrounded by many geothermal vents feeding luxurious hot springs of all sizes and temperature ranges.

Warning: you may think that you somehow ended up in the setting of the movie “Avatar”. Yes, Brian, I’m talking to you. No, you can’t ride that bird! Get off that poor thing!

Okay, where were we? Ah, right, no matter what part of the country you’re in, Costa Rica has beautiful landscapes everywhere – beaches, volcanoes, mountains and rain forests. Costa Rica has it all, and we best not forget to mention the slice of city life you can experience in San Jose too!

Costa Ricans are known to be among the most friendly and welcoming to foreigners, tourists, and visitors. They live a very modest lifestyle compared to western standards, but they love to meet people from all around the globe.

A lot of people who visit Costa Rica claim that the Costa Rican culture is like no other.  When you experience the Pura Vida lifestyle you will agree and like them, you will fall in love with it. Everything seems to slow down. Heavy hearts become a lot lighter. Your focus shifts to the bright side of life, freeing your mind to “breathe in” all its wonders.

It’s something about Costa Rica that just rejuvenates travelers. Being the only species on this world to be stressed out ALL the time, we humans can learn a lot by watching Costa Rica’s…

Are you a fan of wildlife? This Red-Eyed Tree Frog is just one example of all the biodiversity you can enjoy while visiting Costa Rica.

Diverse doesn’t even begin to describe the Costa Rican wildlife and sea life. This country accounts for 6% of the world’s entire biodiversity. Did you know that? 500,000 species thrive in Costa Rica, with a little more than 300,000 being insects! Don’t worry, there are a lot of hungry frogs, too. They will take care of any insect that tries to mess with you!

You might see howler monkeys, scarlet macaw’s, rhino beetles, red-eyed tree frogs, and that’s only when traveling on land. If you venture out into Costa Rica’s marine territory, you’ll find a host of rays, sharks, dolphins, and whales as well.

Zip-lining, zip-lining, zip-lining, that’s all some people visit Costa Rica for. It is a major attraction especially for people who seek opportunities to get that rush… certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Don’t worry though. There are many different places to do zip-lining so if you want to get in on the fun without screaming your lungs out, you can do exactly that. From super-high to super-low, they have all sorts of zip lines so that you can gradually work your way up to Indiana Jones levels.

If you haven’t tried zipling, do it – it’s super fun. Costa Rica has some of the longest AND fastest zip lines on earth.

If you feel that zip-lining just isn’t your calling, you’ll find 100’s of other outdoor activities, including surfing, hiking, diving, white water rafting, and even horseback riding, if laying around at one of the pristine beaches doesn’t do it for you.

I’d be happy to just be able to lay around and read that book on why you should eat whatever you want while on vacation. Hey, everybody needs a break… even my diet! But back to the topic… and even more lovely reasons to go to Costa Rica.

In recent years Costa Rica has made protecting the environment one of its top priorities. They’ve managed to restore and protect their rainforests and have been working to become completely CO2-neutral. In doing so, they recently earned themselves the right to be called UN Champions Of The Earth. If that name isn’t impressive enough, it’s worth noting that this is the UN’s highest environmental honor.

When you visit Costa Rica, you’ll support these sustainability efforts and see the measures they have been taking to protect the environment firsthand. You might even get some inspiration on how you can be more environmentally conscious in your own life, as many visitors find themselves doing once they get back home.

Costa Rica is home to some of the world’s best food and drink that cannot be enjoyed anywhere else. From fine dining to casual sodas (a local casual diner), there’s something for every budget.

Multiple different sources report Costa Rica is the happiest place on earth, and when you visit, it won’t be hard to see why. Strong social connections, overall peaceful environment, and, most importantly of all – the Pura Vida lifestyle.

Pura Vida literally means “pure life,” and Costa Ricans take this very seriously. In essence, it means living simply and intentionally. Living in the moment, cherishing loved ones, taking care of yourself, and taking the time to do the things you enjoy the most. Think “hakuna matata” from the Lion King – Pura Vida is the Costa Rica version of that laid-back “worry-free philosophy”.

To these friends look happy to you? What a cool shot! I sure know which two I’d want on my beach volleyball team!

Also a heads up – the locals use “Pura Vida” quite a lot in conversion as a response to “how are you” and as a greeting when you meet “someone – just a little language tip before you jet off.
