Tour Description
The Rio Tenorio is Guanacaste’s biggest and most thrilling whitewater rafting river with class 3 and 4 rapids! Its pure waters originate from the virgin rainforest of the Tenorio Volcano National Park along the continental divide from where it winds its way through the Guanacaste mountain range along a deep, red-rock canyon surrounded by magnificent landscapes of the low tropical dry forest.
We will enter the “Pozo Azul” section where we will start our rafting adventure that will take us over numerous rapids along 20kms (12 miles) of this famous river.
As you float down the incredible Tenorio river, keep your eye out for monkeys, exotic birds and strange colored snakes and frogs. Keep in mind, the more colorful a snake or frog might be, the more poisonous it is likely to be..
Keep one eye on the wildlife, but be sure to keep your other eye on where you are going as you will soon be rafting through sections which are dominated by class III-IV whitewater rapids.
Hold on tightly to your paddle as you plunge through the cataracts and get absolutely soaked with water!
The thrill ride will conclude with a super-exciting 12-foot drop down the “Cascabel Falls” into a natural pool.
During the smoother sections of the Tenorio river, take a look around at the lush, forested scenery and try to spot tropical birds perched high in the trees.
When you arrive at the end of your exciting whitewater rafting journey we’ll do a quick hike to the 4×4 vehicle to drive out of this isolated, unspoiled region of Costa Rica.
You’ll then be treated to a delicious lunch. Be sure to make use of the changing rooms and get into some dry clothes before climbing aboard the transport. Soon you’ll be on your way back to your hotel in time for the glorious, Pacific sunset!
