Tour Description
The Palo Verde Wildlife Safari is a gentle guided boat tour that will satisfy bird-watchers and nature lovers. Relax as your pilot expertly navigates the slow-moving rivers of the Palo Verde wetlands reserve — Central America’s most important nesting site for aquatic birds. During the months of November to May, you will be able to spot countless birds and reptiles along the rivers of this exceptional place.
You can expect to see herons, egrets and kingfishers on this wetlands tour. Bring your camera because you can also see flycatchers, raptors, storks and maybe roseate spoonbills, orioles, scarlet macaws and owls.
In addition to birds, Palo Verde also has one of the world’s highest concentrations of crocodiles (hatching is around May-June), and we usually see monkeys up close. Both howler monkeys and white-faced capuchins are common, and spider monkeys show up occasionally during the rainy season (May-November).
We’ll also see iguanas, bats, basilisks (“Jesus lizards”) and occasionally anteaters and white-nosed coatis, which all live inside the reserve in healthy populations. This wetlands boat tour is a wonderful experience and is especially perfect for wildlife photography, and also excellent for kids.
After a slow comfortable ride out of the sun while on the Palo Verde Wetlands Safari, we will enjoy an authentic Costa Rican lunch with all its culinary delights.
The meals are prepared on an open fire and consist of chicken, beef, vegetable stew, salad, rice, beans, plantains, cheese, and more, with vegetarian options or other preferences available.
